Construction Update

Summer 2001: No Summer
Vacation. Work continued
throughout the season, with
construction workers starting
at 7 a.m. and finishing at 10
p.m. (One reason the rebuilding
is advancing at such a fast
pace.)

Fall 2001: Rebuilding of the
main dome starts.

Fall/Winter 2001: Interior
rebuilding starts.

March 2002: Exterior
Construction completed;
dismantling of scaffolding. (By
that time, the Frauenkirche
will be visible above the
scaffolding.)

End of 2003: Completion of 205-
foot dome projected.

Hand Blown Glass for the
Frauenkirche’s Windows

In the spirit of the
reconstruction, the
Frauenkirche’s 36 feet high
windows are now being installed
in the same way the originals
were.
The artisans are installing
fine, hand blown panes of
antique-style glass between the
sandstone mullions.

One concession to 21th century
technology: High quality
insulating glass will be
installed on the interior side,
which will provide weather and
noise insulation.

The windows should be completed
by the end of the year,
allowing the interior work to
proceed, protected from the
winter weather.
