Title: Bells will ring Date:Jan.29.02
The Frauenkirche will get bells in

2003. They will sound for the
first time in early summer.
Planned are 8 bells: 7 new ones
and an historic bell that once
hung
in the original Frauenkirche. This
bell was given to another local
church in 1925, and then passed
along to other parishes later on,
and
so survived Dresden's destruction
in 1945.

Unlike the rebuilt Frauenkirche,
the new bells will not be
reconstructions of the old ones.
They will be smaller than the
originals, and the sound will be
of a higher tone. The original
bells
had deep tones, and were so big
they caused splits in the
stonework
shortly after construction in 1743.

The new bells will be cast this
fall, with each given a different
name and verse from the Bible.

The entire undertaking will cost a
total of $72,000, and will be paid
for by the Remagen Foundation.
